(Stafford Springs, CT)---Mark Kline has joined forces with Jon and Tom
Butler to form the newest championship contender in Stafford Motor Speedway’
s Late Model division for the 2006 season. Kline will also field a second
car on a limited schedule for Chuck Docherty, who was the 1996 Late Model
track champion and 1999 ProStock track champion at Stafford.
“The Arute family gives us a great facility to race at every Friday night,
and we wanted to put together the best team possible to give the fans a
great show that the Late Model division has become known for at Stafford,”
said Kline. “We’re going to race the full season with Tom driving the 13
car, and we’re going to put Chuck in the 18 car for a part-time schedule.
There’s a lot of talent in the Late Model division, and we’re looking to
make it even more exciting for the fans than it was during the 2005 season.”
“Mark’s team was looking to make a change with their chassis program, and
they decided to go with SPM Chassis and Steve McCarthy, and that’s how my
name came up for the ride,” said Butler. “Jon and I were concerned about
not being able to do a full season financially with our own car, and my name
was brought up because of the relationship that I already had with Steve,
and I was offered the ride for 2006. I didn’t want to sit out the season,
and when the 13 ride opened up, and with the 13 car being a top-flight ride
in my opinion, this is like an early Christmas present for me.”
During the 2005 season, Kline’s car reached victory lane four times with
Mike Quintiliano behind the wheel while Butler piloted his own entry to four
victories, giving them eight combined victories in 21 races. Looking to
build upon the success of their respective 2005 seasons as a team in 2006
has Butler and company thinking wins and a championship.
“The team has a new car and a new T/A engine ready to go, and we’re trying
to take as much from my own car as we can to transfer it over to the new
car,” said Butler. “Without Steve McCarthy’s help, that would have been
very hard to do. I’ve never won a feature at Stafford without Steve or
without a green car, so now I just have to convince Mark to put a little
green on the car somewhere, whether it be a stripe or the numbers. I always
say that I come to the track to win and the points will take care of them
self, but we definitely have all the tools in place to win a championship.
I think T/A Engines are the best there are at Stafford, and I wouldn’t have
taken this ride if Steve McCarthy and T/A Engines weren’t involved with the
car. We’re taking all my crew guys and combining them with Mark’s team so
it will be basically the same team I had in 2005 with a different car and
car number.”
“Everyone’s goal is the championship, we just want to be a contender every
week and a championship will come with that,” said Kline. “I have to thank
Buzzy’s Transmissions, T/A Engines, OJS Landscaping and Excavation, Brad
with New England Racecars, Bill Davis from Trackside Motors, Tony Mercierari
with Mercierari’s Landscaping, Bill Lemon Sr. and Jr., The Butler Group,
Steve McCarthy, and all our friends and fans. Hopefully our 2006 will be
even better that our 2005 season was.”
The Butler-Kline combination will begin their pursuit of the 2006 Late Model
track championship at the 35th annual Tech-Net Spring Sizzler April 28-April
30, 2006. For more information, contact the Stafford Motor Speedway track
